Colorado River Report

May 31, 2021

FLOW: 750.0 cfs (State Bridge)

WATER CONDITIONS: Off Color

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Salomon Flies, Caddis, Baetis

THE LOW DOWN:  The Colorado is low for this time of year, as the state is filing up reservoirs which is not exactly a bad thing.  We are in the BIG BUG time with the Salmon Flies hatching on the Upper Colorado.  The water is off color but a heavy cast near banks mixed with some twitching, the fish will know where the flies are.  Nymphing, large dries, and streamers are all viable options right now.  So pick your poison and enjoy the weather we have in the upcoming week

Appropriate Patterns

DRIES: Flush Floater, Sofa Pillow 4-6, Chubby Chernobyl 4-6,

NYMPHS: Girdle Bug 4-12, Deep Cleaner 8-10, Biot Epoxy Stone 12-14, Hare’s Ear 12-16, Pheasant Tail 12-18, Prince Nymph 12-18, Jiggy JJ Baetis 16-18, Zebra Midge 18-20

STREAMERS: Double Gonga, Motor Oil, Mini Leech, Circus Peanut

HINTS:  Look at all those Salmon flies flying around!  Imagine how many more are under the water…
