Gore Creek Report

May 31, 2021

FLOW: 243.0 cfs (Above Red Sandstone Creek, Vail)

WATER CONDITIONS: Clear-ish

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Baetis, Caddis, Annelids

THE LOW DOWN:  The Gore is big, but still fishing well.  Look for large structures near banks creating slower water for the fish to hang out in.  Tie on heavier attractor patterns followed by smaller baetis and midges with some weight under an indicator, or a small streamers to get fish to eat.

Appropriate Patterns

DRIES:  Stimulator 14-18, Royal Wulff 14-18, Parachute Adams 16-22

NYMPHS:  Hares Ear 14-18, Juju Baetis 18-22, Zebra Midge 20-24, Black Beauty 20-24, Pheasant Tail 14-24

STREAMERS: Slump Buster 8, Wooley Bugger 10

HINTS: The Gore right now is not the techy pocket water we normally see, but this time of year there are some big runs that are not normally there either.  In these “new” runs, all of the structure that normally gives us the pocket water during the lower water months is still there, the fish still can be using these structures for feeding lanes.  Fishing heavy can get your flies in front of these fish.
