Eagle River Report

May 13, 2021

FLOW: 253.0 cfs (Avon Water Treatment Plant)

WATER CONDITIONS: Off Color

FOOD SOURCES PRESENT: Midges, Worms, Caddis Larva, Beatis, Stone Flies.

THE LOW DOWN:  Spring is in full effect, that being said water levels are up and down.. As water levels rise fish will seek out to the banks and slower moving water.. The hatch is so sporadic but still possible to catch on dry flies, a nymph rig is the way to go. The San Juan worm seems to be most productive right now followed up with some kind of caddis..  Don't forget to keep em wet!

Appropriate Patterns

DRIES: Para Adams 18-22, Elk Hair Caddis 14-18, Olive Biot 20-22

NYMPHS:  Zebra Midge black 14-16, Pheasant Tails 12-16, Barr's Emerger 14-18, Worms 12-18, Eggs 12-16, Rainbow Warrior 16-22

STREAMERS: Slump Buster 6-8, Wooley Bugger 4-10, Double Thin Mint 4-8

HINTS: With the rising water levels will “dirty” the water a bit.  Now we can use heavier tippet and larger bugs.  Heavier tippet helps with us getting the fish in quickly.  Larger lead bugs help grab attention of the fish with all the other stuff floating down the river.
